Auburn University is putting on an event called the Battle of the Bands on Wednesday April 11 in the student act pavillion at 6:00 PM. Many bands tried out but only six hold the spots to compete for prizes, one of them being the band I play in, Virgin Eddie. Each band gets twenty five minutes to play their songs. The crowd’s respnse to the music determines the winners, and I hope anyone who reads this will come out Wednesday night and give their support. The Battle of the Bands website is http://www.auburn.edu/upc/. If you enjoy hearing local music, then you would enjoy this year’s Battle of the Bands.

Weagle 91.1
March 21st, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · 4 Comments
A friend of mine just started working for the music station here at Auburn University known as the Weagle, station 91.1. Here name is Allison Duff and has a double major here in psychology and communication. Allison and her partner Tim Kelly are known as Duff and the Day Walker on this music station. They are on the air from six to eight on Monday nights. Unfortunately I am in class during this time so I don’t get to hear the good music being played. I say good music because I play in a local band known as Virgin Eddie and Allison plays one song off our cd every time they are on the air. So, If you are not in Roberts very eventful class from five to seven thirty on Monday nights, tune in to Weagle 91.1 with Duff and the Day Walker.
Dovetail

I was looking on the internet for anything interesting to type about public relations, and I came across a very interesting website that helped me to better understand my major. As I am getting used to blogging, I still have many questions about public relations and what exactly I can do with it in the future. After reading about a public relations company named Dovetail I learned some interesting facts about what exactly PR practitioners do. Dovetail is a technology PR firm based in Silicon Valley and was founded in 1993.
One particular part I liked about their website was how they talked about how the media was an important part about their public relations. They say that most people who will be determining their clients success base their decisions on their influence from the media. For this reason Dovetail helps their clients work with the media. They make sure that their clients have productive relationships with their companies to keep their message consistent to the customers, which is critical to their success.
The Inconvenient Truth
March 1st, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · No Comments
Al Gore made a movie this year called An Inconvenient Truth, which he made to educate people about global warming. This is a serious issue for the world, and the United States is the only country that is not taking any kind of action. Al Gore became interested in this issue from one of his professors in college that did experiments in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. His results show that the cabon dioxide in the air directly corelates with the temperature in the air. From tests scientists can do on ice deep down in glaciers, scientists have been finding that the cardon dioxide and temperature is much higher now than it has been in the past 650,000 years. The pollution our society makes creates a thicker atmosphere, trapping in warm air and heating up our earth.  Â
Huge glaciers in our world such as in Patagonia, Antarctica, Greenland, and the ice cap at the north pole are just a few glaciers that are melting at uncontrollable rates. If these melt, it will overflow onto the coasts of many countries flooding places such as New York City, the San Grancisco Bay, and the tip of Florida just to name a few places. We need to start taking better care of our earth, and you can look at the website www.climatecrisis.net to see the small changes you can make in your life to help with the global warming issue today.Â
Social Media

On a recent blog about a week ago I read that there was some confusion about the term “Social Media.” The confusion was ranging from the definition of social media to whether it should be reclassified.
After a bunch of bashing the term, I liked a particular post by Chris Heuer. He stated that”Let’s stand up for what is right about “social media†rather than tearing it down just because a few misguided folks are misappropriating the meme. We need not throw out the term Social Media for the mere fact that some people will sour its intention and purpose during the course of socializing the deeper understanding of what is happening and what it means.”  I also agree with another stating on what it is and what it isnt. Stowe Boyd says that social media is  not a broadcast medium, but that social media is open and disruptive. Also that the tools that are used in social media are blogs, wikis, and whatever else to create social media.

The Great Smoky Mountains
February 25th, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · No Comments
I have been visiting The Great Smoky Mountains National Park since I was very young. My parents and I began vacationing there when I was born. I have had many Easters and three day weekends in the beautiful campgrounds of the Smokies. We look at it as a way to get away, fly fish, and relax by the campfire. A normal day consits of waking up between nine and eleven to the smell of campfire and great breakfast. We do the real camping with the wildlife and obeying the  bear pre-cautions. The most exciting thing to me other than the fishing is the wildlife in the Smokies. We have seen animals such as deer, bear, owls, turkey, fox, and many more. I have many stories from the mountains but only have time for one. When I about four years old we had cooked some steaks for dinner and before we could sit down a family of bear had treated themselves. I will be visiting the Smokies this year for spring break and cant wait to be relaxing in the beautiful outdoors of the Mountains. Â
Successful Blogging
February 25th, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · No Comments
In my P.R. Class at Auburn University there has been lots of discussion about how important it is in the P.R. world. We read a blog post last week that stated the blogging was useless in some P.R. jobs. After reading this, I found better ways to be a successful blogger in the P.R. world. What it really comes down to is a different outlook and thought process for you blog. It does not have to be long but needs to be interesting. They say it is important to bring the reader more than just facts but to relate some personal experiences along the way. Writing a blog is a good way to establish yourself as a “thought leader” if it contains what I listing above. I believe it cannot hurt to blog so if you have something good in mind then it could help you become an expert in your field.Â
The Boring Sport of Golf
February 9th, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · No Comments
At first I always thought of golf as a boring sport. Like Adam Sandler refers to it during the Movie Happy Gilmore, “Golfing requires goofy pants and a fat rear.” Surprisingly I have found it interesting and have picked it up as a sport now. I really don’t play any other sports but soccer so I have found golf taking up some of my free time. My friend works at the Auburn University Club and I have been playing with him a lot. I Guess now that I am getting older and more lazy, it is good to get outside to play golf. To tee off and drive the Golf cart to wherever I have shanked the ball is somehow fun for me now. So for those who used to think of golf like I did, maybe give it a try and you may be surprised.
Verizon Valentines Day Promotions

My family has done a lot of buisness with Verizon Wireless since I was young. As I was reading about there new deals I found they are promoting a new slim, red razor for Valentines Day.  The Verizon Wireless promoters are informing the public looking to give a gift that will last longer than roses this Valentine’s Day, MOTORAZR V3m Orchid Pink is the deal. They are refering to the present as sweeter than candy and available online for ninety nine dollars with the famous fifty dollar mail in rebate. I wonder if all the promotions and advertisements for holiday sells really work?Â
“The Conch”
February 1st, 2007 by murray in Uncategorized · No Comments
As I have stated before, music is of great interest to me. One of my favorite bands consists of four guys, whom I have met and seen live over twenty times. They go by the name of Moe. Moe. is a rock band put into a category of music known as Jam bands. Like they have stated in the Rolling Stones Magazine, which I can agree with,  is that they are the best of the Jam bands.  ”The Conch” is Moe.’s newest album just released last week which has had many music fans waiting to put it in there cd players and I pods.  To support the band, which I encourage, you can purchase “The Conch” on Moe.’s website for 14.99 and get a free live DVD included. In this post I wanted to inform the public and my fellow music lovers that purchasing “The Conch” would be a great investment.
